Light training means light training

In previous post I told you about my light training philosophy method. Some people start asking me if I can give more explanation what I mean light training.

First of all you have to train with light weight and you have to challenge yourself with the rest between the sets and/or excersises. This is the first step to put your thinking onhold. With the main goal is to push yourself in the flow where you have to maximum focus on your technique, power and mental state. So you push yourself towards your limits in the lifting the weights so powerfull that it looks easy another word is LIGHT. (And in next training(cycle) you can add some light weights ….. )

So when you train with weights which you can control easily, you can improve yourself at other points (technique / mental) which mostly are forgotten and in mine opinion a big(gest) part to generate maximum performance. Because you know when your technique is good and your mental state is focused, you can let go all your physical strength to have maximum performance. It’s like a Formula 1 car. How is it possible that car 1 beat car 2 although the cars have the same (horse)power. The difference is how is the (horse)power released (put on the road)……

Always nice to fool somebody ……

Today I trained together with Wesley Ortega. Wesley had to do one of his last training session for next week Classic Powerlifting Nationals. He joined me with my warm-up session and during this I fooled him and he had to pay the price during his final squat 🙂

During the bench and deadlift he kept his mouth closed, because he won’t wanted to give me this moment of joy 😆 Because I tricked him, I know he his focused now to go all the way next week. Also I help me focus to push me to my next level of lifting of little bit more heavier weights….. which are still ‘light’ weights…..

Maybe some people start to understand what I really mean with LIGHT weights….. Because I will really what to KICK ass in my Home Gym…. 😀

3rd light training this week….

Monday I had a good training. Put some more weights on the bar and that went good. It had ofcourse some impact on my body, so on Tuesday I did some recovery sets added some pace between the sets. This causes even more impact, so I decided to skip my training yesterday. Also I went to the neurologist and this visite had a bigger mental impact that I expected. The neurologist did it great, he took the time and we discussed the following steps. He want do 3 examines on me.
1. MRI scan (on 21st December)
2.Appointment with the neuropsychologist (to do several tests)
3.Sleep research (to exclude this matter to be sure)

Therefor I trained today and did some lighter weights than my recovery training only I added one rep to it. See how it will go tomorrow…

Training experience of Ricky Bakker

Wim ‘van Gaal’ Wamsteeker (by: Ricky Bakker)

Everyone knows in the meantime that a trip to Wim is a journey itself. He just lives far away from the rest. At my DRC Cup Wim coached me towards mine first 9-out-9 meet. During the meet I have some strugles to handle and during that meet I started to know Wim a little bit, he is doing things differently to push towards and/or you beyond your own boundaries. Since then I got the idea to train at Wim’s home gym. Also through the stories which are told be the others.

Now it was so far, we first talked. Get to know each other better. Here I noticed that it would be an interesting day. Once in his impressive home gym I noticed that there really is a nice training atmosphere.

I think many other lifters with me, have their own routine to warm-up. I followed Wim’s. And these exercises have already got me pretty tired. But we did not use heavy kilos. Everything ‘light’ as it is called, and yet I still have muscle pain after three days.

Then we went to work according to plan, squats, bench presses and deadlifts. Tempo changes, kept sharp, made sure that this was not an easy day. Powerlifter are relatively lazy, you know what I mean. But here was more than just physical training. I became mentally tougher. According to Wim he was still very nice to me. He placed his ‘finger’ in the in center of painful spot. . As Claudia did, it was my

turn to let go some tears. Wim broke me, but the intention was to let me learn from it and me push me to lift the weights I wasn’t able lifted before in the training session.

The lesson, one of many, that has been very important to me is that you have to focus on what is important and keep your faith. Faith and confidence in your own abilities. Shake IT or!

Maybe you wonder about the title of this blog. As I watch Louis van Gaal in the media, and the documents I read about him, he sounds like a trainer who wants you to open your eyes. So when you asked him a questions, he gives you the answer which is another question.
Breaking down and building up in a safe environment. Exactly what I need (So now and what is next!)

Thank you Wim van Gaal!
